RAE Systems Launch Fixed RAE Guard 2 PID

RAE Systems, the leader in gas and radiation detection solutions and portable detectors, today announced its new RAEGuard 2 fixed head photoionization detector (PID) that offers advanced capabilities in monitoring volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The new RAEGuard 2 PIDs offer continuous monitoring with faster response times, higher level of accuracy of readings in varying weather conditions and with reduced maintenance costs.

A PID is one of the primary tools used by industrial safety personnel to measure toxic chemicals at ppm (parts per million) and now ppb (parts per billion) levels. PID monitors are widely used by refineries and petrochemical plants, power plants, solvent recovery systems, painting and coating operations, waste water treatment plants among others for monitoring their environment and ensuring worker safety.

“As an industry-leading supplier of gas and chemical detectors to large companies operating in hazardous environments, RAE Systems strives to continuously leverage its technical leadership and understanding of its customer’s needs to increase industrial safety,” said Thomas Negre, Vice President of Marketing and Products for RAE Systems. “RAEGuard 2 PIDs symbolize another step in that direction and offer advancements that are valuable to industrial safety personnel for ensuring worker safety.”

The RAEGuard 2 PID offers continuous VOC monitoring in hazardous and non-hazardous area locations. Our proprietary 3rd generation PID sensor technology allows a wide range of resolutions that can be as low as 10 ppb and can go as high as 1000ppm. Maintenance costs have been significantly reduced due to an easily removable sensor module. The sensor and lamp can be removed without tools and serviced in hazardous locations. In addition, the flow through design with integrated pump provides a faster response time and humidity compensation has been added to ensure accurate readings in variable atmospheric conditions.

“INEOS recognizes its workers among its most valuable assets and their protection is of utmost importance to the company,” said Eric Mayol, analysis manager for the company’s refinery in Lavera, France. “The new RAEGuard 2 PID delivers increased levels of safety monitoring for volatile organic compounds in an efficient and easy manner that allows us to maintain a safe environment for our workers.”

The RAEGuard 2 PID uses an intelligent processing platform and digital sensor technology, and supports multiple ranges and resolutions. Its explosion-proof stainless steel enclosure makes it suitable for outdoor applications in hazardous environments. The PIDs are designed to allow removal of the digital PID module in hazardous locations, which simplifies calibration and reduces costs of maintenance.
